[In the spirit of keeping a low profile and capitalizing on the fact that most of the people of her world haven't seen her face, Phasma decides to break the network silence with an anonymous text post in order to attempt to gather intel.]

To what extent would you sacrifice securities for freedom?

Canon notes: There is not enough canon within the movie itself for a fully appable character, but I believe the additional canon novels and character dossiers supply sufficient additional material for a rounded character. As much as I can I've relied on the sources themselves and not just their appearances in wikis and wikias.

Species: Human, Military

History: Captain Phasma was part of the commanding triumverate under Supreme Leader Snoke that ran the Starkiller Base for the First Order. Alongside General Hux and Kylo Ren, she oversaw the FN Stormtroopers that were stationed on the base. She took a hands on approach, wearing her armor to instill a sense of solidarity with her soldiers, and constantly patrolled her assigned sections of Starkiller Base as a means of learning her surroundings to the best of her ability and putting herself where her soldiers could see and access her. Her cloak and her armor's chromium treatment were her way of visually instilling her authority. She did not believe in recognizing gender over function and therefore was never seen without her helmet, and her armor - like all trooper armor - was gender neutral in design.

When training the FN troopers, she strove to instill in them an undying loyalty to the First Order above all else; while squad unity was important, it came secondary to the First Order. During training exercises and sparring sessions, she noticed one of her top cadets - FN-2187 - constantly showed empathy and even mercy for squadmates. She tried talking to him, setting him against his squadmates in sparring, and other tactics to try to drive this empathy out. A firm believer that no matter how much training someone received, a soldier was only forged through actual battle, she brought FN-2187 and his squad to an asteroid field in the Pressyla system to restore order within a First Order mining operation. Instead of negotiations with the miners like the briefing mentioned, she ordered the troopers to open fire. The cadets were then granted full Storm Trooper status, though FN-2187's continued hesitance disappointed her. She brought him to Jakku for one last attempt to prove himself. Again, he failed to fire on the civilians when ordered, and upon returning to the Star Destroyer Finalizer, she ordered him to turn in his blaster and return to reconditioning.

This final attempt failed, and FN-2187 freed the rebel hostage Poe Dameron, the two escaping with a Tie fighter. Captain Phasma reported to Hux about FN-2187's failure to conform. In a discussion with Kylo Ren, Hux calls them 'exceptionally trained, programmed from birth'; FN-2187's desertion is unprecedented.

She maintains her patrols of Starkiller Base, and as such is ambushed by a Wookie (arguably one of the only things that can take her in close quarters combat, aided by the element of surprise), and forced by FN-2187, Chewie, and Han to lower the shields. She does so, but flatly states her faith in her troops to kill them in short order. They dump her in the trash compactor where she belongs.

Personality:

As the Captain of the FN Stormtrooper corps on Starkiller Base, Phasma has an extremely high level of expectation - for herself and her soldiers. She saw the way the Empire had failed and did not want to repeat the same mistakes with the First Order. She's thorough in training her soldiers to devote their loyalty to the First Order as a whole and while she encourages unit cohesion it's not above that loyalty. She does not recognize gender or individuality, was never seen without her helmet, and her armor - like all trooper armor - was gender neutral in design. Her cloak and chromium treatment of her armor were the only visual indications to her authority. Phasma is a very organized, ordered individual. She is described in Before The Awakening as having a 'flawless precision' about everything she does. Her armor is spotless, her cloak crisp, and her movements efficient. An embodiment of the First Order ideal of order over chaos, her bearing is as much a personal trait as it is a reminder to her soldiers the ideologies they strive for.

She is an extremely thorough, clocking thousands of miles in patrols over her soldiers' assigned sections of Starkiller Base. She makes sure she is absolutely familiar with every inch of the area she and her soldiers are inhabiting. Under her care and rule, it would be spotless and in top condition. She'd know immediately if there were anything out of place.

Phasma holds a deep confidence in her training capabilities; despite the failure FN-2187 posed as unable to recondition (which she does consider a failing on her part), when she is taken hostage by 2187, Chewie, and Han, she offers little resistance in lowering the shields; she has that much confidence that the soldiers she trained would be the superior force against the smuggler duo and a traitor.

Everything and Everyone is a tool that Phasma can use. Her soldiers she conditions to work their hardest and devote all of their loyalty to the First Order so that the First Order will succeed over any individual need. Anyone who fails to be useful for her she uses to teach others (as is the case of FN-2003, and the villagers on Jakku, who she used to bolster the skills and confidence of more adept cadets).

She has a respect for those she works alongside within the First Order and isn't afraid to speak openly with them. She and General Hux in particular challenge and question each other as equals (while she bears the title 'Captain' she is in reality a much higher rank among the officers of Starkiller Base). In general, she doesn’t mince words and though she speaks little, she speaks her mind.
